What is Operating System?

An Operating System(OS) is basically a software which works as an interface or wall between the end user and the computer hardware.it's make to Computer user friendly by which they feel free to use it.Operating System is the heart of the computer without it we can not do any program and can not perform any task easily.

Laptop,Tablet,Desktop,Mobile all runs with OS that you probably heard, Like..

• Window Vista

• Linux Etc.

History of Operating System: 

The first time the computer came, it was without an operating system, then people started using it but it was not working well in a way ,then people thought to make a software which can work easily and can perform programs so thats why software introduces.The first operating systems were introduced in the 1950, when computers could only run one program at a time,People's needs started growing and they were trying to get a lot of programs to run simultaneously, Then the owner of the operating system thought, why don't we get multiple work done at the same time.Then he first created an operating system is Unix in 1960, that could do a lot of work at the same time and this OS is written in C language,so after one by one many more OS comes and different type of OS have different Features.

Features of Operating System:

There are many features of OS-

• The operating system uses a method to make the computer run smoothly.
• We can do a lot of work at the same time.
• The Operating System provides the user with a simple medium so that he can easily operate on the computer.
• The operating system acts as a mediator between the user and the system so that the user can easily communicate with the system.
• Through the operating system, you can listen to songs on your system, you can give videos, you can print anything, you can click the photos.

Functions of Operating System:

• Operating system handle input output operations.
• Operating System Provided Better Memory Management System.
• Manipulation of the file system.
• Error Detection and handling.
• Better program execution workflow.
• Removes Threads.
• Manage to open and close to file/folders.
• Communication management.
• Security.
• Job Accounting.

Types of Operating System:

There are many types of OS-

• Multitasking/Time Sharing OS
• Multiprocessing OS
• Real Time OS
• Distributed OS
• Network OS
• Mobile OS

Advantages:

• It gives to platform to the user for working on their.
• Users feel very friendly to work with computer.
• Its manages all peripheral devices to communicate with the computer.
• Memory management,error handling,multitasking all types of features its included.

Disadvantages:

• Sometime cost is more.
• As compare to windows OS,Linux and Mac OS  are not easy to use.
• Unknown users can use your system without your permission.
• More memory required for Memory Management.
• Sometime when OS get fault then your Data can be kost.
